Prayer for a Raging Tempest

The sun, as it rises this morning,
is tranquilly bobbing in an apricot sea.
No rain in the sky, no rain on the radar,
no promise of rain for the upcoming week
Cracked and parched, limp and wilted,
pale green of despair--are the fields that compel me to offer this prayer:

Lord, alter the winds
that swirl in from the oceans
Send us clouds full of water,
great sheets pouring down
Mists and drips,
drops and torrents,
splatting onto the rooftops
And thunder, that shatters the skies with its sound.

I'm not fond of lightning, but I'd gladly bear it...
Just send us some rain, Lord, I know you can spare it.

Alter; verb: Change or cause to change in character or composition, typically in a comparatively small but significant way.

Fond; adjective: having an affection or liking for; affectionate, loving.

Tranquil; adjective: Free from disturbance; calm.

We have plenty here! Rain soothes the land and the fires inside too..always welcome to clear the head and dust away..Jae

Looks like you're in a bit of a drought. You truly capture a sense of desperation for rain here using the prompt words brilliantly.

That's a terrific poem. We have the same problem here - 'up north' - yesterday the temperature was 40 celsius - everything is dry as a bone. Very high UV ratings, and some idiot neighbours are lying around in skimpy bikinis!

I found this lovely - very heartfelt and easy to 'see'. I like the end line. Quirky and sincere all at once :-)

A wonderful description of the horrors of a drought. Here in the Midwest States, we are awaiting the likelihood of the Mississippi River flooding--again.

Phew, we had exactly that sort of weather here in Manchester today.

Cool plea!

Some people want rain others want sun. We had a dilly of a storm here yesterday. We had lightening wind thunder and trees coming down.Even took out power at the hospital not good. They only had enough power for extreme emergencies.

Very nice. I love the colors of the picture, the photo and the one your words painted.

Just posted a photo that SO resembles yours, except with moonlight! Here in South Africa we're experiencing heavy floods, a mini tornado and most unsual: in the Namib desert a the Zebra's graze in snow! Prayer is certainly all any of us can offer. Thanks for the beautiful poem.

instead of a rain dance, you give a rain poem. I like it.

Prayers for your rain to come. Beautiful image, but a potent reminder of how dry the land can get. Good use of the 3WW prompt words, liked this very much. Thanks, Amy

And it was answered, too. Not with torrents, but with some relief anyway.
