Images of the Drought

At six o'clock in the morning it's 87 degrees already.
This is my lawn.

It's easy to see where grass has been watered and where it hasn't.

We aren't watering the lawns anymore, because of the water shortage, but we are trying to keep the trees alive.
Out here on the windswept prairie, trees struggle to survive--
even in the good years.

When I walked, early yesterday morning, I noticed cracks in all my favorite hiking trails.

Even the weeds are dessicated.

Fences are unguarded and gates left open. The cattle have been sold.

The great southwest is suffering. We are in a state of shock.

How Can You Tell It's Hot?

When you walk around outside,
your flip flops melt clear through
and coat the bottom of your feet
with a layer of blackish blue.
